With the fifth volume of this series, the current challenges of construction companies and, above all, of civil engineers at the interface between civil engineering and business administration are addressed – as already known from the previous years.
The first section of the book, “Theory – Perspectives”, does not only present strategic instruments of construction company management, but also provides further know-how in the field of lean construction management and customer satisfaction in the construction industry, which have already been dealt with intensively in the previous volumes. Moreover readers who want to familiarize themselves with process management will find what they are looking for in this volume in the form of a report on the experiences of an engineering firm, as will those interested in the important topic of sustainability, which is defined in one of the book’s contributions as a criterion in the decision-making process to purchase residential real estate by institutional investors. In addition, there is food for thought on topics such as quality gates for office construction or the definition of component types as the basis for in-depth cost planning, is offered.
As usual, the second section “Viewpoints” focuses on practice. Interesting representatives from the Austrian construction industry and also the Austrian Minister of Economic Affairs make contributions on relevant topics of the (construction) industry by means of interviews and, of course, also provide insight into the challenges concerning COVID-19.
